A big congratulation to German trombonist/composer Nils Wogram.
German-born
Trombonist/ composer Nils Wogram
has just been awarded the Albert Mangelsdorff Prize for 2013 - known as the Deutscher Jazzpreis/ German Jazz Prize). The prize has a
value of 15,000 Euro and is awarded by the Union Deutscher
Jazzmusiker - an organisation representing musicians, chaired by
pianist Julia Hülsmann, and currently celebrating its fortieth
anniversary. The award has been made every other year since 1994 to
"outstanding people of the German Jazz scene ."
Nils
Wogram was born in 1972 in Braunschweig in Germany . He has recorded
22 albums as leader. The early ones were produced by ENJA, he has
also recorded for ACT.
His
latest release with his Root 70 with Strings ”Riomar” has just
been released picking up outstanding reviews so far.
Wogram
will receive his award on 3rd November 2013 in the
context of Jazzfest Berlin. The GEMA-Stiftung, Förderungs- und
Hilfsfonds des Deutschen Komponistenverbandes and the GVL contribute
financially to the prize.

”Nils
Wogram is a technically brilliant musician with a distinctive sound.
Deeply rooted in jazz history , he knows how to combine tradition and
innovation, and to give the many facets of a modern jazz sound. He
places great emphasis on intensive, continuous work in his ensembles,
he, undeterred by fashion trends , his musical companions and himself
creates space for artistic development. Nils Wogram taught since
2004 trombone at the University of Lucerne. In addition to his
artistic and educational activities , he is committed to the needs of
jazz in the European music scene .

representatives of the new jazz generation in Germany ," said
Julia Hülsmann , chairman of the Union of German jazz musician .
